Vegan Nutella Alternative

This vegan chocolate spread is made out of just 5 ingredients and it only takes a few minutes to prepare. It is the perfect vegan Nutella alternative and a great option if you are looking for a healthier version which is low in fat and sugar, yet rich in flavour and texture. Stored in an airtight container like an empty jam jar it keeps up to 7 days in the fridge.

Ingredients
For one 150 g jam jar
Preparation time: 5 minutes

  • 1 can chickpeas (400 g)

  • 4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 6 tbsp agave nectar (plus more if you prefer for it to be sweeter)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 85 ml coconut milk (or other desired milk alternative)

Method

  1. Strain and rinse 400 g chickpeas thoroughly.

  2. Add chickpeas, 4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder, 6 tbsp agave nectar, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 85 ml coconut milk and a pinch of salt to a blender or food processor (you can also use a stand mixer). You may need to give all ingredients a stir with a spoon throughout if dry ingredients don’t mix well. Add more milk if needed.

  3. Store in an air tight container like a jam glass in your fridge. Use up within a week.
